  • Day 6

Sunday was an incredible day for us here in Romania.  After breakfast, Roy and I headed to Fieni for church.  The building looked great!  They have finished the siding on the front of the church, have installed all the windows, and have plasted the sides of the church.  A picture is shown below.  After plastering the front and back, they will move to the inside, where sheetrock comes next.  Church in Fieni started at ~10 am, and did not end until after 12.  They enjoyed watching the short version of the video from June.  We had lunch with Florin, Mariana, Marian, and Samona.  They now have a dog, so I made sure to take pictures for Izzy and Savanah!

Lance and Bo stayed in Pucioasa, where Lance taught and Bo sang.  I believe he even tried to sing in Romanian!  He learned "Come, Now is the Time to Worship" in Romanian.  I'm not sure he can do the Hedner dance while singing in Romanian, but we should have him try!

Trips to Romania would not be complete without at least one bath/shower experience.  The tub in the our room was up about a foot above the floor, had a hand-held shower, and did not have a curtain.  The interesting part was when I turned on the water.  Water quickly came up out of the bathroom drain onto the floor!  When I turned it off, it drained back down, so I went ahead and showered, hoping I would not flood the whole bathroom in a few minutes.

Kelly, I tried to bring Rezvan back, but he used the International Distress Call (Mama!) to escape!

They moved the Sunday night service to 4 pm so that we could stay with them for one more service.  We did not get to Bucharest until about 9:30 pm, so we are all tired.  What an awesome week!  We are all spent, but feel blessed to have served along side our brothers and sisters in Romania.

    See you in Houston!

  • Day 5

We finished up our conference today in Brasov.  Roy taught on the text of scripture, explaining the use of manuscripts and discussing a few of the bigger differences between the various translations of the Bible.  Lance finished up with Applications from 1 Peter.  The both fielded a variety of questions with thorough answers.  Afterwards, the young guys and Ox played soccer.  We then headed to Pucioasa where we had a small youth service and then had wonderful pizza with Daniella and Nicu.

Dani, "Mi Amiga" says to give you a hug!

Here are a few pictures from today.  We have a better internet connection, so I've included quite a few.  I've also uploaded a longer video.  If you haven't figured it out yet, the two-headed monster is the newlywed couple!

Barbara, just so you know you are not the only one, Bo burned up a fan with 220V.

Have a blessed time of worship and great teaching from Nate tomorrow!

  • Day 4

Today was our full conference day, with Lance teaching three sessions and Roy teaching twice.  Lance covered several easy subjects (election, suffering, prayer, leadership, and baptism).  Roy covered the Books of the Bible and the Canon of Scripture.  Needless to say, they both got several questions.

During the afternoon break, Ox (Bo) managed to play soccer (don’t ask me why they call it football when the ball is round!) without breaking anything!  He quickly was asking what altitude we were at.  Now that they know he can sing, he has shared several songs with us.  I've uploaded a short video of one of the songs under videos.

Giles, Ox was asked if he could do anything that you could not do.  He quickly dropped to the ground and did 2 pushups!

Here’s a picture of the conference center we are staying at.  It is extremely nice, especially when the temperature is in the 60’s.

Pray for Lance to get some sleep tonight.  I’m not sure he got much last night.

  • Day 3

Today began with a typical morning breakfast and a tour of Brasov with Sorin.  We went through the "Black Church" in Brasov (center of the picture), which is over 600 years old.  It was originally a Catholic church, but became Luthern during the reformation.  It was renamed the Black Church in the 1600s when it burned.  At lunch, Bo continues to have wild food, eating Wild Boar stew!  We also found out that Bo means Ox in Romanian.  Sounds like Bo has a new nickname!

Transportation can be a little different here in Romania.  Here's a car we saw today.  Guess you could ride up top if you ran out of seats below!

Cheryl, Here's a picture of your lovely husband, toothpick in mouth!  It is accepted practice here in Romania to have a toothpick in your mouth after a meal!

This afternoon, we made it to the conference center outside of Brasov.  It is a Christian conference center about 40 minutes from town.  There are ~40 people here, including folks from Brasov, Fieni, and Pucioasa.  Lance began the teaching this evening, working from 1 Peter.  Roy then began the history of the Bible sessions as well.  We found out an important Romanian word for Lance - nenorocitul.  This is Lance's favorite word - WRETCH!

Tonight, we finally got Soloman and Bo playing together.  You would have thought they had played together for years!  They are learning "Jesus Messiah" and "Sing to Jesus".  I'm guessing we have started something we will enjoy for at least the next few days.  Trisha sang along with them, adding more joy to the worship.

  • Day 2

Sorin met us at the hotel this morning and brought us to Brasov.  Danny came with us as well.  Here’s a picture of the group, as well as a snapshot of the town of Brasov, taken from a café toward the top of the mountain.  We went there for a light lunch, and I wound up having beer and bear!  I asked for still water (no gas) and the waiter brought me beer.  As for the bear, Lance, Roy, and Bo needed to try it!  This was the best (and only) bear any of them have tasted.

For the youth, you may need to work with Bo on his walk.  He was informed by Danny that he has a "girlfriend" walk.  I'm guessing we'll hear this one as a sermon illustration by Lance.

Tonight, we had a great dinner at Sorin and Trisha’s.  She made us feel right at home with BBQ sandwiches.  Two families from the local Campus Crusade ministry joined us, Alex and Samona with their son Matthew, and John and Anne with their children Becky, Justin, and David.  After dinner, Bo entertained us with a few songs.  I attached a short video of one.  I’ve also attached a picture of Trisha in her best apron!

After dinner, we walked around the downtown portion of Brasov, where a big celebration was underway.  They were celebrating two birthdays, that of Mary and the 775th birthday of the town of Brasov.

Nate, the weather is gorgeous this time of year.  The high can’t be much over 70 degrees.  Can we have VBS in September next year?
